You Are Allowed To Care Too Much

By

Stop pretending you are emotionless. Stop walking around acting like you don’t give a fuck. Stop thinking it makes you cool not to care.

You are allowed to cry your eyes out when you are suffering from a breakup or dealing with a loss or simply having a shitty day. You are allowed to scream until your lungs burn when you cannot believe how unfair the world has been treating you. You are allowed to mope around in your bedroom for a few days and you are allowed to listen to sappy music that makes you even more upset.

You are allowed to call your friends on the phone and rant about your problems for a full hour. You are allowed to post statuses about how upset you have been feeling lately. You are allowed to get excited about something ‘silly’ like someone special liking your photo or someone texting you first for a change.

You are allowed to fall in love. You are allowed to send two or three texts in a row, even though you might call it a mistake later. You are allowed to gush about the new person you met to your friends, even though they might roll their eyes. You are allowed to get excited about what this world has in store for you, even though you might end up disappointed a few weeks from now.

You are allowed to get upset over something your friends consider stupid, like a fictional couple or a celebrity couple breaking up. You are allowed to get mad when someone treats you worse than you deserve, even if they believe they haven’t done anything wrong.

You are allowed to send the first text when you are dying to talk to someone. You are allowed to distribute compliments instead of keeping your kindness to yourself. You are allowed to tell your friends how much you love them and you are allowed to let your crushes know about your strong feelings for them.

You are allowed to feel disappointed when your crush enters a relationship with someone else, even if you were never his to begin with. You are allowed to feel hurt when a friend posts stories with other friends, even though it has nothing to do with you. You are allowed to stop faking smiles in public. You are allowed to show the world your authentic self even though it isn’t always pretty.

You are allowed to laugh until you snort. You are allowed to cry until you hiccup. You are allowed to experience a rainbow of emotions instead of shoving them away to seem ‘stronger’.

You are allowed to feel because numbness is overrated. Numbness does not lead to happiness.

Stop pushing your emotions away. Stop acting like vulnerability equates to weakness. Stop fooling yourself into believing you will be labeled as clingy or desperate or weird if you act authentic.

You are allowed to be the kind of person who cares. You are allowed to show the world your soft heart.
