You Are Allowed To Make Stupid Decisions
You are allowed to text your ex when you are missing them, even though you know you are going to be pissed at yourself in the morning. You are allowed to have a little more to drink than you should, even though you have to wake up early for a meeting. You are allowed to eat an extra cookie, even though you promised yourself your diet would start this week.
You are allowed to make spontaneous, questionable decisions when you’re young (or even ten, twenty years from now when you feel like you should know better).
As long as you aren’t hurting anyone or hurting yourself in the process, then you are allowed to say and do things you will be embarrassed about in a few hours. It’s better to get on the stage and sing karaoke than to wish you would have gotten up to join your friends. It’s better to attend the concert you have been debating wasting a paycheck on for months than to wonder what you have been missing out on.
If you have the means to make a certain decision, and you really want to make that decision, then go for it. Stop worrying about the what ifs. Stop holding yourself back out of fear of the unknown.
Make the stupid decision. Listen to your gut. Follow your heart. See what happens.
Besides, sometimes, you don’t know whether a decision is truly stupid until you make it. Yes, kissing your ex could be the biggest mistake of your life — or it could lead to you getting back together and living happily ever after. You never know unless you take the risk.
And if you end up with regrets, you’ve learned a valuable lesson. You’ve learned what not to do moving forward. You’ve learned which rewards are not worth the risk.
Yes, the majority of the time it’s easier to play it safe, to listen to the rules, to remain inside of your comfort zone to avoid conflict and embarrassment. But sometimes, you should make dumb decisions, you should let yourself live, you should see what happens if you give yourself permission to be whoever the hell you want without restraints.
You are allowed to make stupid decisions. You are allowed to stumble down the wrong path before correcting your footing. You are allowed to make mistakes, because every single person on this planet has done the same thing, no matter how put together they appear.
If you embarrass yourself, so what? You are not the first person to make a situation awkward. No one is going to dwell on the ‘mistake’ you made for as long as you do. Everyone else will forget soon, because they are busy worrying about their own embarrassments.
You have to ask yourself whether you would rather sit up in bed at night and replay an awkward moment in your head or whether you would rather have trouble sleeping because you never took a risk and never saw what could have come from it. It’s up to you.
