I know the south gets a bad rap sometimes. I know there are racists. I know there are homophobes. I know there are Honey Boo Boos and dynasties of ducks. But there are also the sweetest, kindest, most generous people you will ever meet and they are my favorite thing about the south.
Every time I see my stepdad letting her paint his toenails, every time I see my mom teaching her how to cook scrambled eggs, I gain a new level of respect for them. I am watching them be parents all over again and they’re teaching her, but I’m learning too.
