This establishment of individuals (this fact is completely uncorroborated, it might be a computer system for all I know) has taken it upon itself to judge the movies of the past year with an unknown set of criterion and then, year after year, not give Leonardo DiCaprio a gold statue.

It doesn’t matter what Beyoncé was trying to present or whether she was trying to present anything other than a killer a dance number. It’s the fact that she, and other famous blacks, can’t raise their opinions without being skewered by the media.

Art imitates life and when you see other black people being beaten in the street for no reason, it would be hard not to be affected by that image. Those are images Beyoncé is making us watch and consider.

However, the crux of the matter here is, why did they only go halfway? Why not stand up to public pressure (and there was plenty) and give Harriet the entire bill? I don’t think she and Andrew Jackson see eye-to-eye on issues of race to put it mildly.

Condoleezza Rice famously said, if all of your friends look and think like you, then you need a new group of friends.

The crumbling soul of this country has a powerful voice and we need to step back and listen.

As a black man living in America and as more and more people’s civil rights are challenged, you begin to wonder if you will be next.
