Thoughts on DIT Fest in Kent, Ohio

Back at The Alamo a bunch of people had joined us. There were around 15 people packed into the apartment. A Fleetwood Mac record was blasting from the stereo. Some people were in the dining room and some were in the living room. Megan Boyle showed up and she was all smiles. Megan Boyle is really nice. She sits calmly and talks peacefully.

Jordan Castro got hungry and ordered a pizza. He kept saying to me, “You look like you aren’t having a good time.”

I was really paranoid. I felt like bad things were going to happen to me and I would never make any money and never get a job and I would die alone. I didn’t tell anyone this. I just said, “I just need to eat a piece of pizza and go to sleep.” When the pizza came, Aaron Mauro—a Kent student—said, “This pizza is like a cartoon pizza.” Everyone started laughing.

Sam Pink, Megan Boyle, Brittany Wallace and I went to breakfast at Wild Goats. I honestly don’t remember what happened there. Until about 2PM it all seems like a strange blur.

After breakfast, back at the Alamo, I sat with Sam Pink alone for awhile and talked. Our conversation went like this: “Heidegger, Nietzsche, Heidegger Heidegger, Nietzsche, Heidegger our Italian fathers were critical, our Italian fathers were critical, Heidegger Nietzsche.”

We went over to DIT Fest. Jordan Castro called Brittany’s cell phone and told us he was down the street. They were in the Food Co-op. We went there. I saw Tao Lin. He was standing there holding a mango. I’ve known Tao Lin since 2003 and see him about once a year. Every time we see each other we are a little aged.

We went back to The Alamo. We sat around the living room and talked. Tao Lin didn’t talk much. He seemed to be checking out the situation. We all felt somewhat sick but then we did something illegal to feel better. We all felt better in a couple of hours. Tao Lin tripped over the blow up bed on the floor and hit his head on a chair. We were all like, “Oh fuck, we killed Tao Lin with the blow up bed.” But he was okay and everything was fine.
