Happiness Is Another Day

By

I met a stranger at a wine bar down the street from my apartment the other night, he looked at me and said, “What do you need to be happy?” The question caught me off guard. I had to sit there and think about this. Not sure if I was thinking hard because I thought it could possibly be a trick question, or maybe because I was deep in a bottle of Cabernet.

I looked at him and said, “Not much.”

He looked right back at me and said, “Not much, what does that mean?”

Now, I am one that can talk to anyone in an odd situation, but what was this guy getting to? I was a bit intrigued, but my answer was not false.

“What is happiness?” I asked the guy.

“Great question…to me, happiness is this. A glass of wine and someone giving me their time. Happiness is another day.”

Happiness is another day.

That line stuck in my head. It stuck so hard.

Happiness is another day.

“Everyone in this world should be happy. If you are alive, and if you wake up, breathing in the air of a new day, everyone should be happy,” and he was right. Everything he was saying is 100% right.

Everyone in this world goes through tough times, but do we go through more tough times than happy times? If I had a dollar for every time I heard a laugh over a cry, I would be a billionaire.

So I ask my readers, “What is happiness to you?”

I never thought there was a real definition of happiness until I met this stranger.

Before I met him, happiness was the love from my family, my religion, a day filled with travel and adventure or a cup of coffee on a beautiful sunny morning. But happiness is not these things…Happiness is waking up, and breathing the air of a new day consisting of all of these things. Another day is happiness and we should all wake up thankful for being alive.

Be thankful for what you have and everything will fall into place.

Be thankful for another day.

Happiness is you waking up this morning.
