Just So You Know, You Are More Than Your Bad Days
It always seems like the bad days drag on forever, with no hope of tomorrow ever surfacing. Luckily for us, there are still only 24 hours in that day. It’s pretty great that the next day is brand new, a clean slate, and you get another day to start over. A day to let go of what happened yesterday.
So repeat after me: “I am more than my bad days.”
Stop beating yourself up over things you think you should have done or overanalyzing a situation until you’re dizzy. Stop telling yourself that you’re going to be stuck in the same crappy situation, because I’m here to tell you you’re going to move forward. Life has a funny way of knocking you down and convincing you that you’re chained to the ground, but I’ll let you in on a little secret.
You have the key to get right back up.
In just a moment and a twist of the key, you are free to give it another go.
Failing only makes you human. It’s what you do after you fail that matters. You get back up. Would you tell someone that making a mistake makes them a complete failure? I can answer that for you: of course not. So stop trying to convince yourself that your bad day makes you a bad person or that one day decides your entire future.
It’s a singular bad day, not a bad life. The good days outnumber the bad 10 to one.
Did someone say something that tore down your confidence? Did it make you start questioning your self-worth? Please don’t let it shut you down. This goes back to the world trying to chain you to the ground. Hold your head up high, because you are worth so much more.
Break-ups hurt, but that pain will not last forever. You’re allowed to feel it and grieve, but it doesn’t mean you’ll be lonely forever. It doesn’t mean you’ll stay home alone with Ben & Jerry and Netflix for the entirety of your existence. You will find someone new on a better day. You’ll form new connections and that one bad day will become a distant memory.
Tears don’t make you weak, stumbling doesn’t make you clumsy, and a makeup-free day doesn’t mean you’re not beautiful. You’re strong even when you feel like falling apart; you find your path even when your map is splotched. You are so gorgeous whether you are dressed to the nines or in sweats and your favorite hoodie.
Today may not have been great. Yesterday could have been grim. Tomorrow doesn’t necessarily have to be bright and shining either. Those are the days that even at the darkest make you stronger. You’re more than a bad grade, a snide comment from someone who is probably trying to cast attention away from them, a boss who downgrades your work, or any other bad thing that could happen to a person.
If people can’t handle you at your worst, they don’t deserve you at your best. Let me tell you something: your best is pretty amazing.
You’re kind to those in need, you always have an ear open to listen to anyone who is hurting, you have a smile that can light up a room, and you have an infectious personality that others are drawn to. So please don’t forget how wonderful you are.
So yeah, those bad days are just that: bad days. And you are so much more than them.
