Meet Sodapoppin, The Twitch Streamer Who’s Making A Living Out Of Online Gaming

By

If you’re part of the online gaming community, there’s no doubt you’ve heard of Sodapoppin. He’s among the most popular streamers on Twitch and well-known enough that he even has his own Wikipedia page (which, in my opinion, is the perfect indicator that you’ve made it in life). But Sodapoppin isn’t just some random dudebro that jumps online whenever he feels like it. He’s achieved something most people can only dream of — he’s built a career out of gaming.

Who is Sodapoppin? Well, his civilian name is Chance Morris. On Twitter, he (probably) jokingly refers to himself as a hentai analyst. Just a brief glance through his profile shows that he’s a pretty funny guy with a plethora of inside jokes non-gamers will probably raise their eyebrows at. He uses social media to chat with fans and keep them updated on his gaming schedule, which constantly changes depending on what’s going on in his life. Altogether, he seems like a laidback, everyday guy, but he’s not just an everyday guy. He’s one of the most successful online gamers today, a sort of niche Internet celebrity.

He first started streaming on World of Warcraft on Xfire eight years ago. He moved to Twitch two years later and soon became one of the streaming site’s most viewed streamer, soon becoming the 15th most followeed streamer (with over 1.8 million followers) and the 14th most viewed (with 200 million views on his videos). But Sodapoppin lives up to the hype — Social Blade even gave him an A++ player rating on their website. So yeah, he’s pretty good.

But Sodapoppin is more than just a gamer. He was the co-owner of Canadian eSports company Northern Gaming, which was later bought out by NRG eSports, an esports organization owned by Shaquille O’Neal and Alex Rodriguez, among others. Soon after, Sodapoppin joined their company and became part of its ownership group.

While Sodapoppin once primarily played World of Warcraft (and even had half of Twitch’s WoW followers watching his videos), he’s now a variety streamer who plays a multitude of online games, including Maelstrom, Overwatch, and Just Dance 2017.

You can keep up with Sodapoppin on Twitter, Youtube, or Twitch.
