‘Modern Love’ Explores Exactly What It’s Like To Date Now

Modern Love is going to make you feel less alone on your search for love.

Modern Love is an eight-episode, romantic comedy series which is going to be released by Amazon Studios. John Carney wrote, directed, and produced the half-hour episodes, which are based on the Modern Love column from the New York Times.

In the series, Modern Love will explore every version of love. Sexual. Romantic. Familial. Platonic. And most importantly, self-love. The show is meant to portray a relatable journey about what it is like to form relationships in the twenty-first century, which we all know is not easy.

If the premises is not enough to draw you in, the celebrities involved with the series might do the trick. The episodes are going to star famous faces like Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, Andrew Scott, and Olivia Cooke. Meanwhile, Emmy Rossum, from the hit show Shameless, is going to serve as an additional director.

In order to get you even more excited about the series, here are a few tidbits about the Modern Love column the show is based on:

The official Modern Love column describes itself as: “Weekly essays that explore the joys and tribulations of love.” There are posts about the science of compatibility, about aging, about sensuality, about vulnerability, about coming out, about young love, and anything else you can think of involving relationships with others — or yourself.

Modern Love began its run in Sunday Styles over a decade ago. Since then, there have been over 500 columns published, which have been read by millions of eyes across the globe.

Modern Love features long-form, reader-submitted essays. Frequently there are also articles containing miniature, reader submitted-stories of 100 words or fewer.

– Since the Modern Love column was so popular, it branched into a podcast by the same name. The podcast is hosted by Meghna Chakrabarti and editor Daniel Jones. Every Thursday, they share the best stories about love with readings and updates from the essayists.

– The podcast includes regular, everyday people as well as celebrities. There is a recent episode available which includes Gillian Anderson (Agent Scully from The X-Files) who talks about sex-ed. There are other podcasts with big names like Kristen Bell, Chloë Grace Moretz, Mandy Moore, Saoirse Ronan, and Olivia Munn.

– Anyone can submit their own stories to the Modern Love column. All you have to do is write a personal essay about a love-based dilemma with a contemporary edge. Each story must be emotional, honest, and compelling.

– You can also submit your own story to the Modern Love podcast. All you have to do is record a voice memo from your iPhone, save it, and send over the recording.

Whether you are single, playing the field, in a serious relationship, or married with children of your own, the Modern Love column has stories you will be able to connect with — and it will be the same with the Amazon Studio series.

When you watch each episode, you will be able to see yourself in the characters. You will be able to relate to what they have to go through in order to find love (romantic or otherwise) in the modern age.
