Please Don’t Die Without Having Ever Loved Yourself
By Bria Barrows
“When a woman becomes her own best friend, life becomes a lot easier.”- Diane Von Furstenberg
To you, the one scrolling through all of your Instagram photos right now, not liking what you see because you don’t think you are perfect or you want to be someone you are not right now, I truly don’t want you to die knowing you never loved yourself.
To me, self-love is truly the only thing on my list right now and with all I have been through emotionally in my life, I hope that God is using my experiences to cultivate self-love and acceptance in myself.
My boyfriend is always telling me I’m beautiful. He always says, “You just never see what I see and I just want you to see it.”
Most times, I do know I am beautiful, but how you feel on the inside has a lot to do with how you will, in turn, feel outwardly because pain, no matter how much it is concealed, will in some way be revealed. In how you carry yourself, in how you talk to yourself and in how you see life.
We hear about self-love movements all the time and how much it matters, but honestly, it does. Writing this now, I am almost led to tears knowing that you and I have really been living our lives in self-hate and honestly, it’s not worth it one bit.
So what you aren’t the most liked person on social media, that doesn’t make you worthless.
So what you aren’t perfect physically and trust me, a lot of what you are fussing about can be changed most of the times. But in the end, it doesn’t matter.
So what, your life hasn’t worked out the way you wanted it to and now you feel broken, worthless because you aren’t parading around like some supermodel showing off all of your designer bags and the places you have been in life.
So what?
At the end of the day, did you love you? Really ask yourself this question, every time you are fussing over things that don’t matter.
You never know when life will be taken from you. We are all just here on borrowed time and for the most part, most of us are wasting it anyways.
Trying to keep up, posting, creating facades that don’t fucking matter.
You deserve to love you. You are special, beautiful and one of a kind and self-love is the best gift you can give to yourself and others.
It hurts me, all this self-hate because honestly, I just don’t want you to die one day, knowing you never loved yourself.
