Rapper Lil Wayne Released From Jail
In July 2007, rapper Lil Wayne was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed .40 caliber semi-automatic gun. He went to jail in October of last year and was released this morning after an initial, day-long delay.
“His time was miscalculated,“ an officer at Rikers Island corrections facility told MTV News around 1 a.m. this morning. “He owed, he owes one day of ‘good time,’ so it’s gonna be another night,” he explained.
MTV, who’d been camped out all night, live blogged the highly anticipated event. After a long series of confusing and controversial tweet-like updates, they wrote that the rapper had finally been discharged at 8:35 a.m. At 10:47 a.m., Weezy was spotted with his surrogate father, Birdman, and others entering a Manhattan hotel.
Plans of a homecoming party at a Miami strip club have been confirmed. Of the rappers return, Mack Maine, president of “Young Money,” Lil Wayne’s record label and “family” said the crew planned to “just treat [Wayne] like a king, like the royalty that he is and make him feel like we really missed him and welcome him back to the family, basically.”
