Taylor Swift Is Back And She Is All Of Us

Taylor Swift, always one for drama and “bad blood” in her life, went away for most of 2017, but she is back and perhaps stronger then ever. Last night she debuted her newest single, Look What You Made Me Do. In typical Taylor Swift fashion, she seems to be calling out some power players in the game. She alludes to karma, snakes, and the old Taylor being dead.

After having her personal life front and center, her dating life constantly scrutinized, her feud with Katy Perry and her public drama with Kim and Kanye, it’s clear what this song is alluding to. It is gold, with lyrics like “I don’t like your little games / Don’t like your tilted stage / The role you made me play / Of the fool, no / I don’t like you” And how could you blame her? At 27, with her life constantly in the public eye, you have to feel for Taylor.

Because Taylor Swift is all of us. Taylor Swift is every person who has been made a fool. She is every person who has been wronged. Because sometimes you try to be the better person, but people just don’t give you a break. Taylor Swift is us, trying to be the better person, but sometimes you just want that karma and revenge. Maybe she shouldn’t write these revenge songs, but it makes her who she is, and we love her for it.

Taylor Swift is writing about that friend who stabbed us in the back. That lover who led us on. The person who acted like you were stupid. The person who played you for a fool. This song is about overcoming but still acknowledging that person’s shadiness.

“But I got smarter, I got harder in the nick of time / Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time.”

Taylor is back and better then ever. Just like you. Because this song is a reminder that karma is real. Sometimes people push us to the edge, and all we’re left to do is call them out. Or in Taylor’s case, write a song about them.
