The Harvest Moon Holds Power And Here’s How To Harness It Into Your Own Life

Look out your window during this time of the year, and chances are you will see a big glowing Moon. This is the Harvest Moon. It is the closest full moon to the Autumnal Equinox and, if used correctly, it has the potential to charge us with much need energy for the coming months. While there isn’t a right or wrong way to celebrate the Harvest Moon, there are a few easy steps you can follow so that you can fully take advantage of this astronomical event.

According to pagan belief, it is important to listen to your body during this time and let your intuition guide you through. A simple yet powerful ritual is to stand in the moonlight and meditate. This meditation can be anything you are comfortable with; keeping your eyes closed and your mind clear, looking at the moon, sitting or laying down and taking deep long breaths. This activity can take as long as you need; be it a few hours or just a few minutes. Rest assured, when you are fully charged with the moon’s energy, your intuition will tell you and you will feel ready to get on with your other daily activities.

During Harvest Moon, it is also encouraged to cleanse your space and your body. It is the time for letting go, either of physical or spiritual matters. So, take this as an opportunity to clean your home of belongings you no longer need and your head of useless thoughts or fears. While cleaning your space, you can burn some herbs or spices, like sage and lavender, or cinnamon and cardamom. Let this smell fill your home while you say a simple chant such as “let everything that does not belong go”. At the end of this simple ritual, you will feel all the dark and heavy energy leaving you and you will be able to start anew.

However, there are a few things that you definitely should not do during this time. Starting new projects or making important decisions aren’t very good ideas because this moon phase has a lot of power over use. It can influence us and make us more emotional than usual. So, don’t take any risks and try to relax while the Harvest Moon fully expresses itself.

The Harvest Moon will stick around for a few days and while it is working its magic, you can also engage in other activities like decorating your home with autumnal bits and bobs like colorful leaves and chestnuts, organizing home-cooked meals with your loved ones, visiting local farmers’ markets where you can buy seasonal fruits and veggies. There are a few full moons left before the end of this year and the next one will be on the Hunter’s Moon, at the end of October. So make sure you gather all the energy you need so it can last you until the next full moon.
