What I Want My Daughter To Know On Mother’s Day

From the first moment I knew you were growing inside of me, I felt connected to your beautiful spirit. The day I delivered you, my beautiful baby girl, was the best day of my life. People always talk about the “day you became a mother” and for me, that day came long before your arrival. I felt like your mother from the moment I knew you were growing inside of me. All of the clichés are true. I never knew how much I could love someone until I met you. It is an overwhelming myriad of feelings and emotions that I still find hard to describe, but I juggle them all on a daily basis. Being a mother truly feels like my heart is living outside of my body. I thought I knew how to love before you, but I didn’t. I love you unconditionally and the intensity of my love for you is like nothing I’ve ever experienced before.

What an honor it is to be your mother. Out of all the women on this earth, God hand picked me to be your mama. This realization brings me so much gratitude and joy. You have given me a title and a responsibility that I cherish more than anything else in this world. I don’t mind if I fail at every endeavor I try in this life, so long as I know I have succeeded at being a good mother.

You have given me strength that I never knew I had within me. I have fought for you since the moment I found out about you. I knew from that moment on, my life’s purpose would be to love and protect you fearlessly. You are a constant reminder to always stay true to myself and my values, knowing your little eyes are watching and your little ears are listening.

I promise to continue to love you unconditionally forever. I promise to accept you fully for who you are, not who I think you should be. I promise to support your endeavors, encourage your interests, and nourish your passions. My arms will be open for you both when you succeed, and when you fail. I will strive to always protect you from pain, but when it’s out of my control, I will be there to ease the hurt.

I will help guide you when you’ve lost your way. I will be a source of light when your world seems totally dark. I will learn from you and with you. I will always put your needs above my own. If at some point we don’t always agree with another, my intentions will always be to act in your best interest. A mother’s love is selfless and eternal.

You have been a source of light and joy for all who know you since the day you were born. You are already surrounded by so much love. When I see how you love others and how others love you, I can’t help but beam with pride. You are missed when you are away and you are loved every moment of every day. No matter where your journey takes you, I will always be with you in your heart and you within mine. After all, you are the only person who has ever heard my heartbeat from the inside and out.
