Oops, I Totaled my Sister's Car
By Dan Hoffman
I wanted both of them to stay and watch cool YouTube vidoes, but Trixie wanted to ride home with Veronica and see that she got home safe. Veronica said that Trixie could stay and hang if she wanted, but Trixie wanted to be a good friend. By this point, I admit, there were feelings of yearning in my loins, and I hoped that Trixie would stick around. She did not, however, and left with her friend.
Not five minutes had passed, and I received a series of text messages, the first one being Pick me up lets make out. I thought to myself, OMG this is awesome I can’t believe it. I picked her up.
I’ve never had a girl sleep over at my house, other than planned girlfriend visits. While we were in bed, my sister knocked on my door at around 3 a.m. and complained that the cats were keeping her up and that I had to feed them.
I couldn’t believe that she expected me to do that and I screamed at her telling her as much. I didn’t want to get into it though, so I went down stairs and left out a can of tuna for them. Then my mom woke up because my sister was whining about something else. I retired to my room and Trixie and I tried to be quiet.
I had to leave my room again at around 5 a.m. to use the bathroom. My mom was already up getting ready for work. I felt bad for Trixie because we only have one bathroom and it’s not in the best location for her to just slip in unnoticed.
I pee a lot. At around seven I got up again, and this time my mom just told me that she knew I had a girl over. This was extremely awkward. When I got back, Trixie felt bad, but we laughed over it too. I had to be up early to catch a bus to NYC, so at around 8 a.m. the two of us went downstairs. My dad and sister were eating breakfast. Trixie said hello. My dad said hi. My sister, who is crazy and on lots of meds, said “you’re so skinny” and then told her to pet our new cat. Trixie thought that was funny; I was glad she had a sense of humor about it.
Well, I took her home. I was supposed to get a ride to the bus station, but I had left my wallet in my mother’s car, which was with her at work. I was really tired. I had to drive out there with my sister’s car to get my wallet.
On the road, I thought to myself, oh shit I’m way too tired. Oh shit. I turned up the radio, opened the window. I made it ok to the parking lot and retrieved my wallet. To get home faster I pulled onto the highway. I was doing ok, I guess. Then I woke up to a loud smash; I had rear-ended an SUV. Shit shit shit I thought. This was bad timing; my parents also had just totaled their car. I went up to the SUV, which was undamaged, and apologized and took full responsibility. The woman had a little kid in the back seat that she was worried about, but it was clearly not harmed in the least. I understand why she was worried, though. I went back into my car, spoke with the police, and sorted things out. I did not talk to the SUV owner again; I felt that there was nothing else to say, and evidently there was no damage done because I haven’t heard anything yet.
Things are strained at home.
