Ocean sequence: Tom Hanks has about a 15 yard ocean encounter before arriving at Normandy beach. The reason why the boats can’t come on shore is because the Nazis (this is WWII, by the way) placed defensive obstacles to thwart progress. Tom Hanks almost gets shot a dozen times, a fate met by many of his unluckier peers, the initial of the departed who turn the shores red. Needless to say, this experience was pretty fucked up.
