Cast Away (2000)
Ocean sequence: (More like “Ocean narrative,” as ~85% of the film takes place by the ocean.) Tom Hanks is stranded on an island and basically ends up staying there for an extremely lengthy beard- growing time, during which he goes from confusion, to fear, to desperation, to anger, to bitterness, to despair, to acceptance, and ultimately, to self-enlightenment. He finally builds a raft and leaves with a volleyball.
